Saab 99 Turbo (1977–1980) aloitti aikanaan ensimmäisenä (vuonna 1977) sarjatuotantomalleissa turbomoottorin käytön. Auto esiteltiin Frankfurtin autonäyttelyssä vuonna 1977. Sitä ennen BMW ja Porsche olivat julkistaneet turbomoottoreilla varustellut mallinsa, mutta vasta Saab toi moottorit, jotka soveltuivat myös siviilikäyttöön. Autossa oli Garrett T3 -turboahdin, jolla saatiin kasvatettua auton suorituskykyä lähes 25%. Tarkoituksena ei ollut korkea huipputeho vaan hyvä ohituskiihtyvyys, mutta alkuvuosien ongelmana oli turbon suppea-alainen toiminta, josta seurasi niin sanottu ”turbopotku”. Turbo-malleja on rekisteröity Suomeen aikanaan 203 kpl.

The Saab 99 Turbo (1977–1980) was the first (in 1977) to use a turbo engine in serial production models. The car was presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1977. Before that, BMW and Porsche had announced their models equipped with turbo engines, but only Saab brought engines that were also suitable for civilian use. The car had a Garrett T3 turbocharger, which increased the car’s performance by almost 25%. The purpose was not high peak power, but good overtaking acceleration, but the problem in the early years was the limited operation of the turbo, which resulted in the so-called ”turbo kick”. 203 Turbo models have been registered in Finland at the time.
